SALARY:  P011, NJC Spinal Column Points 54 – 57, £58,421 – £61,671 per annum


The Head of Communities will lead the Communities Service Unit. 

The services falling within the responsibility of this post are as follows:

  • Community Planning
  • Community Development, Engagement, and Advice Services
  • Community facility management [including community centres]
  • Community Grant Schemes
  • Community Investment Programmes
  • Community Transport
  • Heritage Service including the Irish Linen Centre/Lisburn Museum
  • Arts Service including the Island Arts Centre
  • Police & Community Safety Partnership
  • Good Relations & Peace Programmes 

In addition to specific service delivery responsibilities, the post plays a key role in supporting the Council in coordinating delivery of the Community Plan for the local area in partnership with other departments to achieve a one Council approach, and with statutory agencies. In fulfilling the post, the post-holder will be required to:

  • Manage and develop the resources of the service area and ensure services are delivered efficiently and effectively undertaking a corporate role and striving at all times for continuous improvement.
  • Advise, consult and provide options and recommendations to Elected Members, the Chief Executive, and senior officers on complex strategic and operational matters across the portfolio of service areas within the remit of the post.
  • Develop a sense of community and maximise community engagement within the district through fostering robust partnership relationships which generate innovation in community focused service delivery.
  • Work closely with the Council`s Corporate Management Team and other Heads of Service to support the delivery of corporate strategic priorities to promote the corporate and community outcomes for the area.
